A Monstrous Battle
Cindi, Wednesday 04 January 2012 - 16:03:00 // Comments are turned off for this item
I was coming out of the woods yesterday and found the above deer locked together and dead. It looks like they might have drowned as you can see by the pictures. What a tremendous waste of 2 absolute bruisers. I took these pictures as a testament to the size deer we are growing. The 8-point or better rule seems to be finally starting to pay-off. I did cut the heads of and am looking into have them mounted just as they were found. One of the deer looks to have at least 14 countable points as the other is a true 8. One of it’s tines were broken off during what looks to have been a monstrous battle.
This was a once in a lifetime find for someone who has hunted this mountain for almost 30 years. I thought you would want a record of them. Best I could tell, both of them are 4-1/2 to 5-1/2 year old deer. I will have a taxidermist check them when I get someone that is willing to do something with them.

DSO Announcement
Cindi, Wednesday 21 September 2011 - 16:03:00 // Comments are turned off for this item
All areas that have had corn, soy beans or any food placed on DSO property to feed or attract deer must be cleaned up down to the last grain. A few sites have been found to still have food on them. If DSO property manager, Richard Shelton, has not called you do not worry about the area you are hunting.
Most of you have a stand up where you want to hunt. PLEASE DO NOT try to push in on another hunter. You stand to lose any items found on the site plus being charged for hunting over bait. A new rule from the TWRA states that any area found to have food of any kind that has been put out by a hunter has to be cleaned up and a 250 yard line all the way around the site cannot be hunted for a min. of ten days after being found to be cleaned up. Nothing can be harvested going into or coming out of this 250 yd. circle during that 10 days. FYI, that circle is the same as a 40 ac. field.
Anyone found hunting in that area can be charged for something they had nothing to do with. That is a great way to lose a friend. I have talked to or will try to talk to those that have left out food on these sites. I would advise you not to have anything that could be used to feed or attract deer in your truck, in your camp or even on your person.
From DSO-Tennessee Property Manager, Richard Shelton:
I have had the pleasure of getting to know a lot of you this summer and I have to say that I do not feel we have a bad hunter in the club just a few that are being lazy in regards to this. You have worked hard getting ready for deer season so don't lose it all, plus being put out of the club for the whole season. Please understand that I do not want to take anyone’s permit but, I had rather put one out than to let others pay for one hunter being LAZY. Mitch Green, DSO President, has put his trust in me to protect, improve and to make the experience on DSO-Tennessee property better for all members. If you have a question about anything you can always call me 256.677.1799 or Cindi Williams in the DSO office 800.239.9090. She has a ton of stuff going on but I have never found her to be too busy to help me. I hope you all have a GREAT, a SAFE and a BLESSED season and harvest. Let’s make this a record setting year. Thanks, Richard

September 10 & 11 Work Days Cancelled
Cindi, Wednesday 07 September 2011 - 16:03:00 // Comments are turned off for this item
DSO will not have work days this month due to the harsh heat and dry ground. We have gotten most everything finished anyway. We will wait a little longer before planting anything because it would be a waste of time and seed to do it now. We need alot of rain to be able to plant anything. We had a ground temp. ran and the ground is about 31 degrees to hot and we have no moisture in it. If you need to fulfill your work days get with Richard Shelton, Tennessee Property manager, 256-677-1799 or RichardfS@DeepSouthOutdoors.com
